These versions of the shoe are remarkable in many ways - they are the first to feature the now common visible "air" cushion in the heel of the shoe, the first to feature the now common "Jumpman" logo, and the first to feature Spike Lee as Mars Blackmon in commercials.

These shoes were also the first designed by Tinker Hatfield, the designer for almost all of the remaining Jordan shoes. MJ himself has called these his favorite version of the shoe.
