Mr. Irrelevant's

They say that everyone gets their 15 minutes of fame, and for the last pick in the NFL draft, this fame is given the title of Mr. Irrelevant. However, there is more than 15 minutes involved for this player, as there is an Irrelevant Week, held for the title holder each year in Newport Beach, California, which includes a parade and roast.

However, once this celebration of their draft status is over, the draftee has to get his head back in the game and focus on football - most Mr. Irrelevant's never make an NFL active roster, and most are out of the NFL within 2 years. In fact, of the past 10 Mr. Irrelevant's, only 2 are in the NFL today. However, there have been a few standouts, and some have even won Super Bowl rings. Ironically, the most famous Mr. Irrelevant is famous for having nothing to do with football. Jimmy Walker was Mr. Irrelevant in 1967. However, he was also the #1 pick in the NFL draft that year, going on to a notable NBA career, and fathering former NBA player Jalen Rose.

1997 - Ronnie McAda

240th Pick - Green Bay Packers

Impressive Stat: Never managed to gain control of the starting GB QB job over the incumbent Brett Favre. The 4 years of service didn't help him secure the spot either.

2004 - Andre Sommersell

255th Pick - Oakland Raiders

Impressive Stat: Played in the CFL in 2006 and was out of football in 2007.

2003 - Ryan Hoag

262nd Pick - Oakland Raiders

Impressive Stat: Bounced around practice squads on the Giants, Vikings, and Redskins until 2007, when he played on the practice squad in the CFL.

2001 - Tevita Ofahengaue

246th Pick - Arizona Cardinals

Impressive Stat: Played on the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad for 2 years, and is now out of football.

1999 - Jim Finn

253rd Pick - Chicago Bears

Impressive Stat: Probably the most successful Mr. Irrelevent of recent memory, Finn was waived by the Bears and Colts before catching on with the Giants. Finn was the starting FB for the Giants in 2005 and helped Tiki Barber rush to a franchise record 1860 yards. He also received a Super Bowl ring this year.
