The NBA All-Star game is right around the corner, and with it, the Slam Dunk contest. Some of the most memorable slam dunks in history have taken place in the dunk contest - MJ's rimkisser, Isaiah Rider's East Bay Funk Dunk, and Vinsanity's Reverse Windmill.
With every memorable dunk, there are dozens of others that have been lost in the annals of history...until now. This list presents highlights of all 23 NBA Slam Dunk contests, gives you the winner of each one, and then ranks them all. This is the definitive list of the best Slam Dunk contests in history.
Featuring such NBA superstars as David West, Stacey Augmon, and Cedric Ceballos, this contest was doomed from the very start. When no fan has ever heard of any of the entrants, it's not a good sign. This dunk ended with one of the worst gimmick dunks in contest history - a "blindfolded" Ceballos threw down a lame dunk to win it all.
Winner: Cedric Ceballos
The "East Bay Funk Dunk" is the first of the between-the-legs to gain national attention (though it was attempted in the first contest, no one remembers it). Rider's dunks are contrasted against the power of Shawn Kemp, who is again denied victory in this contest. Both dunkers were a rare combo of grace and power that is rarely seen in the contest.
Winner: Isaiah Rider
In the first post-Vince contest, there was bound to be a letdown, as he opted not to defend his title. Desmond Mason kind of stands out in this contest, as his dunks are the only ones that quality of "top-level", as his competitors not only failed to brink the funk on a nasty dunk, they pretty much mailed it in for the check.
Winner: Desmond Mason
Dominique's final contest and final win, he most displayed the same dunks he had used in previous contests, except with less power and less grace than the young Nique could muster. The competition in this year was equally as weak, creating a ho-hum contest.
Winner: Dominique Wilkins
The 2004 winner's name says it all - Fred Jones, in other words, unmemorable. A one-handed alley-oop to yourself? Seen it a dozen times before. The only disappointing thing in this year's contest is that Jason Richardson was trying some crazy and wild stuff, and missed nearly all of them. This left one of the best dunkers on the sidelines in a very unmemorable contest.
Winner: Fred Jones

Yeah, Dwight Howard was totally robbed. But the kid is out for revenge, based on what he's cooking up for this year's Slam Dunk: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bI z7sYjp1Sc The one stunt he does, the mid-air, bounce-off-the-backboard, left-hand-right-hand dunk, that's sick.
